We all know that exercise is the best way to lower your cholesterol naturally, but what do you do these days when the snow prevents you from brisk walking or biking and there are no cheap seasonal fruits and green veggies to add to your diet?

You make sure that you avoid organ meats, fatty fried foods, (ice)cream and mayonnaise. And you can do what your grandparents gave to your parents in winter: take a daily dose of fish oil. Fish oil contains Omega 3 fatty acids that can only be obtained from food. Unfortunately, a typical western winter meal doesn’t contain enough of these Omega 3 fatty acids and an easy and proven way out is taking fish oil.

Fish oil not only decreases your bad cholesterol but also increases your good cholesterol. An extra benefit in these dark winter days is that fish oil can help with depression.

Last but not least, people that eat lots of fish seem to live longer and have less heart disease, so if you can’t have a daily supply, you do can take a little amount of fish oil every day to keep the doctor away.
